niro perrone better known as simply niro, or easy to remember, alongside sibling and production partner elia perrone, has come a long way over the past few years stacking up releases on the likes of m50’s revered kimochi sound, sound of vast, memento and the dub, as well as releasing his debut lp on his unclear imprint. here though we see niro introduce a new chapter with his brand new label pads.
‘hands of shadow’ opens the release and sets the tone of the label from the very beginning with an understated melodic feel fused with raw percussion and a subtly evolving yet intricate structure. ‘inner space’ follows and wanders into dub territories with spiralling echoes, low-slung drums and ethereal atmospherics. title cut ‘pieces of you’ opens the flip side and lays focus on an infectious unfaltering groove via vacillating pad swells, sporadic jazz licks and a weighty 4/4 drive before closing cut ‘the spectrometer dance’ rounds it all off with some ambient vibes.

this is an official reissue of what am i gonna do for fun by the band pitch (1982 - new york city). this release also includes a fantastic remix or rework by tolouse low trax (toresch, salon des amateurs, düsseldorf). a few words from stuart shape, the producer: feels like it was done by another person. i remember getting the serge synthetiser to stay in tune was always a problem. we were fascinated with the new sampling that were just coming out, and kind of got carried away on the vocals. not sure what i was thinking about with the lyrics, guess maybe trying to figure out what i was supposed to be doing when i wasnt working or playing music unfortunately no other finished tracks from that era have survived. they recorded a lot, but finished and saved very little.

the argentinian based ngly had seemingly appeared out of thin air landing on the brooklyn based l.i.e.s. label in 2014 with an untitled four track white label ep. on this ep, the unsuspecting track -speechless tape- ended up becoming a cult hit with select djs in the scene (i-f, mick wills, intergalactic gary...) eventually leading to it being voted as intergalactic fm s #1 track of the year in 2014. on the heels of his successful debut rudolfo could have stayed the path and produced an easily digestable follow up dance record or two, instead he chose to take his time and reflect. sitting back in the studio tweaking his live act, recording endlessly, transforming and refining his sound.

why making a techno record in 2016? in the vast stream of new releases and the everlasting quest of new musical boundaries, blint002 tries to focus on the essentials of pattern-based clubmusic. both tracks started as late night studio jams, using only a drummaschine, a synth and some pedals. while 92 avenue ended up being a straightfoward technotrack, including a massive breakdown for everybody still awake and dancing, you have i dont have is incorporating some boomy hiphop aesthetic without loosing its connection to the dancefloor. both tracks are linked by their unresting synthlines, straying around, trapped in a noisey room full of smoke and distortion. bouncing back to the inital question, the answer with this record seems pretty clear: techno is still nothing but pure dark fun.

deep88 is back! here is a 7 track lp, music without any pretence, no silly fx or crazy compression/production tricks to take away from the music. just that 1988/1993 vibe with a slight balearic twist but some how avoiding to sound like a poor copy or dated. this last statement couldnt be any truer on this release. the vibe is carried through the whole ep with each consequent track then offering something a little bit different, some showing his balearic side and other tracks having a more house feel.

having already issued a few cassettes via his own harsh riddims label as well as cgi’s sister label dka records, ryan parks brings his fit of body project to cgi for his debut 12inch, release. here we are treated with two previously unreleased original cuts as well as galcher lustwerk and twins reworks of a pair of older tunes. fit of body’s sound is unique among the current crop of bedroom dance producers in that it can ignite a dancefloor while still feeling deeply personal. this mood is enhanced by the way parks colours his tracks with his own voice. his approach to adding live instrumentation to the arrangements lends a handmade delicacy otherwise lacking in so much hyper-quantized machine music. these are tracks that will feel at home in the dj booth, your living room and your bedroom.
